We had the opportunity to chat with Mamoun Alaoui, co-founder of Pelico!

💡After raising €18.5 million in Series A funding, Pelico stands as a vibrant symbol of how artificial intelligence is revolutionizing industrial operations. Its SAAS solution aims to build a bridge between the operational challenges specific to industrial sectors and technological innovations, thanks to the intelligent exploitation of data.

Hello, Mamoun, can you tell us more about your background?

I'd love to! My background is in engineering, and I've worked on a variety of data products, particularly in sectors such as market finance, e-commerce, corporate finance, retail banking, insurance, and online marketing. In fact, I've mainly created data-rich products to give actionable insights to users who aren't necessarily very technical. And today, I'm proud to have co-founded Pelico with my two associates Tarik and Jonathan, to help manufacturers pilot their operations.

So, basically, you're trying to make the data understandable to everyone, right?

Today, at Pelico, we help manufacturers leverage their data to optimize plant operations. For my part, I take care of the product and part of the operations.

Pelico was founded in 2019, and today we employ just over 70 people in several countries around the world, including Germany and the USA.

If you had to describe your corporate culture in a few words?

We have very strong values at Pelico. Our culture was the first area we discussed and crystallized with my partners, Tarik and Jonathan. We wanted to create a place where we would be happy to work, and where others would enjoy working with us. We have three key words that sum up our corporate culture: "empowerment", "impact" and "resilience".

We ensure that everyone has the means to succeed, we focus on the impact of our work, and we stand firm even when we fail. We always strive to achieve our goals, and give our people the tools to do so.

And once the person has been recruited, what is the integration process like at Pelico?

When someone joins Pelico, whatever their position, we make sure they're made to feel welcome. From the very first day, we provide the necessary equipment, organize a welcome breakfast with the teams and hold a group meeting. We also often invite our future employees to attend events such as dinners or afterworks, to meet the team in a more informal way before really getting started.

Once on board, the aim is to give them as much context as possible about the Supply Chain challenges on the factory floor. We work for the manufacturing industry, and our aim is to transform the way industrial operations are managed on a daily basis. To achieve this, it is necessary to have a certain knowledge of and exposure to our customers' professions: supply chain managers, production controllers, line managers, and so on.

As a result, new team members, especially those working on product, operations or sales, will spend some time in the Customer Operations team. They'll have the opportunity to visit factories, see how our platform is deployed, how users use it, how it solves their problems. It's all about them understanding the challenges of the sector and the solutions we provide.

After this induction period, they will attend several sessions organized by Pelico's most senior members. They'll learn about the company's history, get a reminder of the mission, a demonstration of what the product can do, an introduction to the factory, an understanding of the challenges, the vocabulary, and how to sell a technological solution to manufacturers.

Finally, once these two stages have been completed, they will begin their integration within their specific team and in their specific role, to start bringing value and making an impact as quickly as possible. We want our employees to feel useful and have an impact from the moment they arrive. This ties in with the company values we mentioned earlier.

What positions are you currently looking for?

We have currently raised a Series A of 18.5 million euros, with the ambition of conquering the United States and starting our commercial development in America. We already have our first customers there. So we're recruiting in both Europe and America.

We're looking for senior software engineers for the back-end and front-end, data engineers, a DevOps manager, Product managers and Customer Operations managers who look after the deployment of the solution in the factories. The latter are on the front line and have the role of transforming the product into an impact, maximizing the value created for our customers and interacting with end-users.

The Leadtech position will be based in Paris, as our R&D is located in France. Customer Operations positions are open both in Europe and in America, where we have offices in Boston and Miami.

Last question: why should we NOT join you?

If someone doesn't like the world of the factory, or isn't interested in it, then Pelico probably isn't for them. The most successful members of our team are those who are most interested in their jobs, our customers' jobs and our users' jobs. By understanding their daily lives and challenges, we can work with them to find the best solutions to their problems.

A final word?

If you let me, I could talk about it for hours! But to cut a long story short, beyond being an incredible entrepreneurial adventure, Pelico is also a wonderful human adventure. I've been lucky enough to work with some extraordinary people, and it's a daily pleasure.

Thank you very much for this fascinating interview. We look forward to following Pelico's evolution!
